      Canon PowerShot SD550 Digital ELPH

      By Jeff Keller

Review summary: The Canon PowerShot SD550 ($500) is an update to the popular SD500, which was released just seven months ago (click here to read our review). There's one big change on the SD550 when compared to its predecessor, plus a few smaller ones as well. Here's ...

Pros: Excellent photo quality (though see issues below) ; Compact and very stylish metal body ; Large 2.5" LCD display (though see issues below) ; Blazing performance ; Powerful flash for a compact camera ; Very good movie and continuous shooting modes ; ...

Cons: Some corner softness ; noisy images at high ISO settings ; Redeye is a problem ; LCD resolution on the low side ; Can only record about 8 minutes of VGA video due to 1GB file size limit ; Battery life could be better ; Can't swap memory cards while ...

Verdict: As you can see, the SD550's battery life is pretty average -- there are cameras that do a lot better in this area

      Canon PowerShot SD550

      By Brad Soo

Review summary: The Canon PowerShot SD550 Digital ELPH is basically an SD500 with several small changes:

Pros: Powerful flash ; Great LCD performance ; Unlimited fast continuous shooting ; Excellent movie mode ; Fast read/write speeds ; Improved user interface ; Above average photo quality

Cons: Below average battery life ; No image stabilization ; Easily scratched body ; No manual controls ; LCD is lacking resolution ; Movies limited to 1 GB AKA 8 minutes ; Red-eye ; High noise levels at ISO 400, low-light ; Fairly slow autofocus, shot-to-shot

Verdict: The Canon PowerShot SD550 Digital ELPH is probably your average stylish 7 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom. In my opinion, it shares the flagship position with the SD700 since it has more megapixels, a larger CCD and more powerful flash.

    Great Buy

Canon Digital IXUS 750 By Stuart James (11/10/2006)
    • Pros: Small, Powerful and Feels Good to hold and use
    • Cons: ......Not found any yet

Bought this camera quickly as my existing one started to become a little unreliable in the battery department and I was travelling to China on holiday.

It has turned out to be better than I anticipated and has produced some fantastic pictures...even using the digital zoom which I have never used before on other cameras because of quality problems. This is a great, easy to use and reliable litt... Read Full Review »

    Good all round camera

Canon Digital IXUS 750 By Anonymous (10/08/2006)
    • Pros: Good image quality, easy to use
    • Cons: Only 3x zoom

I bought this camera just before going on holiday and it was well worth the money. I am a notoriously bad photograph taker and this camera made even my efforts look good. I have used it for conventional snaps and close ups and both are excellent quality. Set up is easy and menu options are easy to foole. Highly recommended Read Full Review »

    canon ixus 750

Canon Digital IXUS 750 By Anonymous (20/04/2006)
    • Pros: great camera, easy to use
    • Cons: cost of repair

after only having it for 5 months of use, it was accidentally dropped and as a result the lens will not retract, can turn on and off but thats about it. took it to canon for repair only to be told that it will be $325 plus parts to fix, since dropping it is not covered under warranty...so just be super careful people!! so my canon is now an expensive paperweight.. :( Read Full Review »

    Beginner Photographer

Canon Digital IXUS 750 By Neil McMahon (20/12/2005)
    • Pros: big screen, excellent resolution, easy interface, compact
    • Cons: battery level and mem. remain indicate, night exposures

A family member has the older Ixus 500, and I thought it was an excellent camera, but the screen was small. When I saw the size of the screen on this one, I wanted it. Everybody comments on the screen size.
This big screen has a 'downfall', only in the form of it being an easy target for damage, so I recommend getting a nice case for it.
I also recommend wrapping the lanyard around your wr... Read Full Review »
