      Canon's EOS-1D Mark III: Canon’s EOS-1D Mark III; Canon's High-Performance D-SLR Gets Updated

      By Joe Farace

Review summary: The big SLR news for pro shooters so far this year is Canon's launch of the EOS-1D Mark III D-SLR. It uses a 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor measuring 28.1x18.7mm that's about the same size as sensors in the EOS-1D Mark II and Mark II N, but has more ...

Verdict: What's this slightly out of focus image doing in this review? It's calling attention to the fact that some websites have reported AF problems with the Mark III and while even one of my sports shooter friends had these kinds of problems with the very ...

Pros: Superb image quality; Live View framing

Cons: Stupidly pricey and massively hefty

Verdict: You might never own the world's best car or house, but sell the ones you have and you can afford the world's best digital camera.

Canon's EOS-1D Mark III DSLR gets reviewed

Review summary: Although Canon's powerful EOS-1D Mark III has priced itself right out of consideration for a large sect, the niche that has been waiting in tense anticipation to see a solid review of the unit need wait no more. The folks over at Digital Camera ...

      Canon EOS-1D Mark III

      By Joanne Carter

Review summary: The Canon EOS-1D Mark III replaces the eight megapixel Mark IIn. Unlike the similar looking 35mm full-frame version, the 1Ds Mark II, the 1D Mark III uses the company's mid-size APS-H CMOS sensor.

Pros: Excellent image quality and low sensor noise. Blistering 10fps continuous shooting and superb Live View and anti-dust features.

Cons: Some erratic AF inaccuracies and unsharpened monitor image.

Verdict: If it wasn't for the erratic focusing, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Mark III, but £2,500 is a sizeable sum, so unless you simply must have it we'd say wait a while till they have the problem licked

Canon EOS 1D Mark III SLR

Review summary: The EOS-1D Mark III CMOS sensor has an expanded sensitivity range of ISO 50-6400. 14-bit A/D conversion allows fine gradation and a significant drop in digital and shadow noise. With its generous 28.1 x 18.7mm image size, the sensor captures every ...

Verdict: The EOS-1D Mark III raises the bar for auto focus performance. It uses a 45-point high density AF system that provides not only the industry's largest continuous AF coverage area, but also the greatest range of control over focusing point selection. ...
