      Review: Canon Powershot SD870 IS

      By Tracey Capen

Review summary: Though not made as sturdily as other Elphs, the SD870 IS has a big LCD and an extra-wide zoom lens, and takes great pictures.

Hands-on Reviews: Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH

Review summary: The SD870, introduced last August, is slightly bulkier than the Lumix FX35. Its zoom lens starts at 27mm and has a marginally shorter range (3.8x), and the sensor is lower resolution: 8MP versus 10MP. But the Canon camera produced images with less ...

Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH

      By Jeff Keller

Review summary: The Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH ($399) is an ultra-compact camera with a wide-angle lens, huge 3-inch LCD display, and all the bells and whistles that you'd expect on a point-and-shoot camera in 2007. The SD870 is sort of a combination of ...

Pros: Very good photo quality (though see issues below) ; Wide-angle lens ; Compact, stylish metal body ; Optical image stabilization ; Huge 3-inch LCD display ; easy to see outdoors and in low light ; Snappy performance ; AF-assist lamp, great low light ...

Cons: Corner softness, some vignetting ; Noise and noise reduction artifacting above ISO 400 ; Redeye a big problem (though the tool in playback mode gets rid of it) ; Current zoom setting not shown on LCD ; LCD can be difficult to see when wearing ...

Verdict: The biggest changes on the SD870 compared to its predecessor include a higher resolution sensor (of course), a larger LCD, enhanced face detection, and in-camera redeye removal. Unfortunately, the optical viewfinder disappeared along the way

      Review : Canon Ixus 860IS

      By paul_smart

Review summary: This is the latest in the excellent Ixus digital camera range, in August 2006 the Ixus 700 won the rarely awarded 5x5 award. Does this latest offering live up to this rarely awarded accolade.

Verdict: For those wanting to progress there are no less than 17 shooting modes to help you get the correct effects. My colours also helps as this can be applied either before or after shooting

Canon Ixus 860 IS By Peter Winter (05/12/2008)
    • Pros: internal flash is great for indoor shots,in bad light
    • Cons: great for people with little fingers

i have owned practically every camera from 135slr too digital.this is by far my favourite and is so easy to use.

i agree with other revieiws that duribility is a cause for concern.
when i purchased the camera it came with a case that was large enough to carry sd cards and extra batteries.i i bought a silicone cover specifically made for the ixus860[sd870]as it should prevent accidental marks on t... Read Full Review »

  2. Stylish yet a little nervey

Canon Ixus 860 IS By Michael Sheehan (31/03/2008)
    • Pros: Value for money, ease of use and great quality
    • Cons: Image stabilsation system needs some work

I previously was the proud owner of a Canon IXUS 40. While not a powerful camera in today's climate, it sure did held its own. The only reason I upgraded, was due to a poor battery life.
As I searched around for a new compact camera for my many weekend trips to the continent, I was immediately mezmorised by the look of the IXUS 860 IS.
Canon have done a fantastic job of combining great featu... Read Full Review »

  3. Canon Ixus 860 IS - great product

Canon Ixus 860 IS By Anony Mous (30/01/2008)
    • Pros: small, easy use, great quality, good battery life, uses SDHC,
    • Cons: very wide angle lens, no case included , not cheap, no viewfinder

I upgraded from an Ixus 40 and so I was already familiar with its use, menus.
It is a nice upgrade and the shake control appears to be reasonably good in reducing the number of slightly blurred images I get.
The massive LCD display gets covered in paw prints but that isn't a major issue. Its size prevents an optical viewfinder though which for some may be a problem but I can't say I ever u... Read Full Review »
