Canon PowerShot S80
By Jeff Keller
Review summary: The Canon PowerShot S80 ($549) is a fairly compact 8 Megapixel camera whose biggest features include a wide 28 - 100 mm lens and large 2.5" LCD. The S80 is the descendent of the PowerShot S60 and S70, which had a similar design. The S80 shares many of ...
Pros: Very good photo quality ; Wide-angle lens ; Full manual controls and plenty of scene modes ; Large 2.5" LCD display (but see issues below) ; Impressive performance (save for focus speeds) ; Live histogram in record mode (and it's about time) ; Custom ...
Cons: On the expensive side ; Some vignetting at wide-angle, especially with the flash ; corners can be blurry as well ; Redeye ; No more RAW support ; Noisy at high ISO sensitivities ; Movie file size limit approaches quickly at higher resolution settings ...
Verdict: It's worth mentioning my usual complaints about proprietary lithium-ion batteries like the one used by the S80 (and nearly all of the competition). For one, they're expensive -- $50 a pop. Secondly, you can't drop in some "off the shelf" batteries ...

PowerShot S80
By Rick Oldano
Review summary: Ambitious but Dissatisfying Point-and-Shoot Camera
Pros: Easy to use. Large and good-looking LCD. Good color accuracy ; Noisy images ;
Cons: Noisy images ;
Verdict: . For everyday point-and-shoot moments, the PowerShot S80 is a capable camera. But temper your expectations when it comes to image quality from an eight-megapixel point-and-shoot camera.

Canon PowerShot S80 Digital Camera Review
By Emily Raymond
Review summary: Canon's PowerShot S80, the new flagship of Canon's S-series, incorporates 8 megapixels for shooting still images and a movie mode that records an impressive 1024 x 768 pixels. It replaces the S70 with more resolution, a bigger LCD screen, revamped ...
Pros: - XGA movie mode - Interesting My Colors mode - 22 language choices, the most we can recall seeing on any camera - Great playback mode - Lots of live views - Software is easy to use
Cons: - Loud lens with excessive barrel distortion - Inaccurate viewfinder - Poor LCD resolution - Clustered layout - too many buttons surrounded by way too many icons - Split menu system appears disorganized - No optical zoom in movie mode - Limited ...
Verdict: The Canon PowerShot S80 is a hybrid digital camera with 8 megapixels for shooting still images, and several modes and resolutions for recording movie clips. The S80 is the first camera to have a movie mode that can shoot in 1024 x 768 pixels. While ...

Canon PowerShot S80
By jon marsh (01/10/2006)
- Pros: Image quality, size, colour reproduction
- Cons: Fragile screen
I am very impressed with this camera in general. I use it as a secondary point and shoot to my Canon 20D. The image quality is superb and it is very easy to use. The only let down was when the screen cracked and it cost me £60 to replace it. I have no idea how it happened, the camera was in a lowerpro case in my coat pocket.

Canon PowerShot S80
By Anonymous (22/04/2006)
- Pros: Nice looking, nice enough pics
- Cons: Dont expect it to last longer than a week!
Bought this, had a canon G5 before it. What a dissapointment this has been. On the seventh day, the lens froze, and "E18" popped up on the LCD. Phoned canon, who said it was my fault, as E18 only comes up after abuse of the camera! WOW! I have been handling it with kid gloves!
Long story short, but it only if you intend to use it for less than a week! I expected more from canon, I ...

Canon PowerShot S80
By daniel ediri (01/04/2006)
- Pros: Ease of use, reasonable price
- Cons: Picture quality not always the greatest
This is the first digital I have owned. It is very easy to use so I would would recommend it to beginners. The picture can be quite variable, especially when taking pictures indoors with the lights on! Overall for the price it is good value for money.
