      Canon Powershot SX110 IS

Review summary: Announced on the 26th of August 2008, almost exactly 1 year after the Canon Powershot SX100 IS, the SX110 IS is Canon's pocket zoom 10x optical zoom with image stabilisation, and features a new 3.0" screen, VGA video recording, a 9 megapixel sensor, ...

Pros: Excellent image quality - very sharp results (as long as you stick to the lower ISO settings) ; Good 10x optical zoom range ; Optical image stabilisation helps with zoom and low light ; Very good 3" screen ; Comfortable, compact, solid black body ; ...

Cons: But slow flash recharge time ; Higher than average chromatic aberations and purple fringing ; More noise than I would like to see (albeit with excellent detail) ; Video mode could be better (it's not HD, and doesn't allow optical zoom) ; Some ...

Verdict: : The Canon Powershot SX100 IS was almost the perfect pocket camera - it had almost everything you might possibly want from a camera, and managed to just fit in your pocket! The SX110 IS improves on the SX100 with higher resolution, smaller less bulky ...

Canon PowerShot SX110 IS (black) review

Pros: First-rate photo quality; full set of manual exposure controls

Cons: No optical zoom in movie capture; slippery body; spotty performance

Verdict: Though it's certainly a good, inexpensive megazoom camera, some aspects of the Canon PowerShot SX110 IS fall a bit short of its predecessor.

      By Tim Barribeau

Review summary: The Canon SX110 IS walks the line between compact and ultra-zoom. It doesn't quite have the same zoom level as most ultra-zooms (only 10x) but has a body size closer to a compact, and offers a high level of manual control. It shoots at nine megapixels ...

Pros: - Solid but light construction with well proportioned buttons - Excellent control scheme - Good color and video scores - 10x zoom

Cons: - Mediocre test scores, very bad noise results - Slow speed - Lacking in some settings

Verdict: It's big, clunky, and didn't score particularly well in our testing, but the Canon PowerShot SX110 IS has it's own particular brand of charm. The settings are a cinch to navigate due to the excellent control scheme and well designed menu system. The ...
