Verdict: I'm a big fan of cameras that use AA batteries. Rechargeables like those included with the S5100 cost much less than their proprietary counterparts, and you can use alkaline batteries to get you through the day when your rechargeables run out of juice

Pros: Affordable, compact and speedy. Takes bright, crisp, and well-exposed pictures. RAW support and an AF assist lamp.

Cons: Lacks important refinements, like antishake technology, a real-time histogram, and a hot shoe. Manual focus is inconvenient to use. Small (1.5-inch) LCD. Uses less common xD memory format. Charger and rechargeable batteries not included.

Verdict: The 4MP FinePix S5100 conventional CCD outperforms the previous model's proprietary SuperCCD HR image sensor. It's speedy and takes excellent pictures with a minimum of fuss, and it would be an unbeatable value if it had antishake technology.
