      Fujifilm FinePix S5700

      By Lori Grunin

Review summary: With its attractive price -- £170 for 7 megapixels, 38mm-380mm-equivalent 10x zoom lens, and a full set of manual and semi-manual controls -- the Fujifilm FinePix S5700 (aka the FinePix S700) is a compelling proposition for the cash-strapped ...

Pros: Low-noise, higher-ISO photos ; broad set of manual controls ; optical zoom operates in movie mode ; runs on AA batteries

Cons: Frustrating design ; sluggish performance ; no optical image stabilisation

Verdict: The Fujifilm FinePix S5700 (aka S700) would be a good budget superzoom camera if it weren't hampered by mediocre performance and a frustrating design

Fujifilm FinePix S5700 Review - Digital Cameras

      By Rosanne Hodgekiss

Review summary: fujifilm finepix s5700 review: The Fuji FinePix S5700 is a sturdy, mid-priced camera for those hoping to achieve that greater degree of creative freedom with their photos. However, those shy of undergoing its learning curve may overlook its strengths ...

Pros: Sharp bright-light photos, especially in Macro mode, Lightweight, modern design, Comfortable grip, 10x optical zoom (38 ? 380mm equivalent), Accepts both xD and SD memory cards

Cons: Maddeningly complex menu system, Dubious battery life, May regret installing the bundled software

Verdict: The Fuji FinePix S5700 is a sturdy, mid-priced camera for those hoping to achieve that greater degree of creative freedom with their photos. However, those shy of undergoing its learning curve may overlook its strengths and possibilities.

      FUJIFILM FINEPIX S5700 review

Review summary: This is a small, pseudo SLR camera with a seven megapixel sensor and a 10X zoom lens (equivalent to 30 to 380mm on a film camera.) There is no optical image stabilisation which makes hand-holding at the long end problematic. The lens does not increase ...

Pros: This is a responsive camera with none of the lag that has characterised these pseudo SLRs in the past. There is no freezing of the image in the viewfinder and the conventional shooting technique of half depressing the button to set focus and exposure ...

Cons: Image noise at ISO400 is ugly. Given the modest pixel density, for which Fuji deserve praise, it is hard to understand the noisy, granular output. At lower ISO settings the issue goes away but we regard ISO400 as a normal speed.

Verdict: The Finepix S5700 is a lot of camera for the money. Neither the camera nor the instruction book treats the user like an idiot. There is a built-in assumption that the customers may be point-and-shooters but it costs no more to cater for those who want ...

      FujiFilm FinePix S5700

      By Andrew Kliem

Pros: 10x optical zoom, speedy operation

Cons: Poor colour reproduction, high chromatic aberration, slow burst mode

Verdict: The FinePix S5700 is a decent but uninspiring advanced digital camera. While it will do most of what you want, it is let down by average image quality.
