Pros: Images show good detail. Handy design with 14.5MB of internal memory. Framing assist helps the focus work better. Can use double-A alkalines or rechargeables.

Cons: Daylight images are soft around the perimeter. Graininess in shadows. Flash is weak. Slowest recycle time of any camera we've seen, and boot time is also a bit long. Shutter lags enough that you'll miss many photo opportunities.

Verdict: Despite its ergonomics and ease of use, the Coolpix 4100's extremely slow performance and weak flash should send even casual shutterbugs looking elsewhere.
