      Nikon Coolpix P6000 digital camera

      By Doug Harman

Review summary: Can this challenge the G10 and LX3?

Pros: Build and handling, low ISO image quality, easy to use, image stabilisation

Cons: Basic optical viewfinder, intermittent GPS, high ISO image noise, price

Verdict: The Nikon Coolpix P6000 is the top of the proverbial tree in terms of Coolpix models and boasts some very cool kit indeed. It's great to use and has impressive performance at the core and is well worth considering even if it is a bit pricey at £430

      Nikon Coolpix P6000

      By Matt Golowczynski

Review summary: The Nikon P6000 is a high-end compact with a wideangle 28-12mm lens, 13MP, and new features including Raw shooting and GPS, so how does it perform?

Pros: Ergonomics and handling, fringing control, grip

Cons: Detail hampered by noise, underexposure, over-processed images

Verdict: The P6000 has given us little in the way of surprises, and in many respects what I've found mirrors what I concluded from testing its predecessor. The obligatory increase in resolution is perhaps unnecessary for most users - and potentially ...

      REVIEW-NIKON COOLPIX P6000

Review summary: This is a 13.5 megapixel camera with a 28-112mm (film equivalent) zoom lens, which is image stabilised. There is a 75mm LCD screen and optical viewfinder. Construction is rugged and appearance is austere. Accessible functions are similar to an SLR -- ...

Pros: Image quality up to ISO200 is very good, with excellent exposure, resolution and white balance, Colour fidelity is exceptional. However the best results do depend on shooting in RAW and converting the images with an application such as Adobe RAW ...

Cons: There is some noise visible at ISO400, and in JPG mode it tends to clog into ugly black patches in open shadow. We consider ISO speeds above 400 just about unusable and the vaunted 6400 is a laugh.

Verdict: We like the design and construction of the camera, and we found that up to ISO200 and shooting RAW we got excellent results. At ISO400 the pictures are acceptable for standard size prints. We couldn't get the GPS to work but we couldn't imagine when ...

      Nikon Coolpix P6000

      By Kevin Carter

Review summary: With the introduction of the full-frame Nikon D3 DSLR, Nikon has been challenging arch-rival Canon at all levels. It has rolled out araft of dizzyingly expensive professional-level lenses, swiftly followed bythe class-leading D300, D700 and D90 DSLRs. ...

Verdict: So while picture quality at low ISOs is astrength, 342 is a hefty sum, even with the fall of a 117 from its original launch price. To make it worthwhile, we would expect the GPS to be reliable and the Ethernet option to be of more use. Ultimately, the ...

      Nikon Coolpix P6000

Review summary: The Nikon Coolpix P6000 stands out as one of the most advanced compact digital cameras around. Nikon have done well to add so many features and still managed to make the Coolpix P6000 easy to use. Picture quality matches the specification. This is a ...

Pros: Ease of use, features, build quality, picture quality

Cons: Shutter lag and start up times are poor

Verdict: This is a very impressive, advanced digital camera. Considering the number of features the camera has it retains a degree of ease of use. Picture quality is impressive. Build quality is also very good too.
