Nikon Coolpix S10 Digital Camera Review

      By Howard Creech

Review summary: Nikon's first consumer digicam was the swiveling lens Coolpix 900.

Verdict: Overall, the S10's optical performance is about average (for compact P&S long-zoom digicams). Images are hue accurate (but slightly oversaturated) with virtually no noise in well-lit low-ISO outdoor scenes. Images shot in dim/low light tend to be ...

Review: Nikon Coolpix S10 digital camera

      By Gavin Stoker

Review summary: Let's twist again with Nikon's 10x zoom digital 'compact'

Pros: 10x zoom is a real boon for candid snapping, 10x zoom is a real boon for candid snapping, Rotating body and lens allows for greater shooting flexibility

Cons: The S10 is bulkier than most compact cameras., The S10 is bulkier than most compact cameras., Screen location means that the LCD is easily obscured, Blurred and noisy images in less than bright conditions

Verdict: This twist-and-turn retro beast has a certain charm, but although the S10 certainly stands out, the images it takes are below par given the outlay and Nikon's usually sterling reputation. To sum up: a brave throwback, but not altogether successful.

      Nikon Coolpix S10 Review

      By Gavin Stoker

Review summary: The Nikon Coolpix S10 is a return to the past in terms of design, with the retro twisting body being first seen on Coolpix models like the 900 and 950. Nikon have brought that design bang up ...

Verdict: It looks like a blast from the past, and sure enough the Nikon Coolpix S10 struggles to match the performance of similarly priced compacts today. It's not awful but it's far from great, and, ...

      REVIEW-NIKON Coolpix S10

      By terry

Review summary: This 6 megapixel camera is the successor to Nikon's first consumer digital cameras, created with the split body that carries the lens in one part and the processor and LCD screen in the other.

Pros: Image quality is very good and we attribute this in part to Nikon's decision to stick with 6 mp rather than getting into the pixel war.

Cons: The S10 hides some important controls under layers of menu. Not to have instant access to exposure adjustment -- the most frequently used correction in a digital camera -- is inexcusable. The most humble point and shoot cameras put exposure ...

Verdict: The S10 is a good camera with some compromises that look as though they have been forced on the designers by the marketing department who want to promise the customer a camera that does all the thinking, right down to recognising a face just in case ...

      Nikon Coolpix S10 Concise Review

      By Simon Joinson

Review summary: Announced in August, the Coolpix S10 is the latest incarnation of Nikon's 'twisting body' camera design that can be traced all the way back to the original Coolpix 900 in 1998, though - like the S4 before it - this one manages to squeeze in a big 10x ...

Pros: Unique twisting body design brings real creative versatility, Very compact for a 10x zoom, Decent resolution and fairly good detail capture at lower ISO settings, Relatively 'natural' looking output - not over contrasty or over saturated, Simple point ...

Cons: Slow focus (hunting) at longer focal lengths, in macro mode and in low light, Some focus errors at long end of zoom and in macro mode, Large screen and lack of grip makes for rather poor handling, Too easy to accidentally knock the joystick and bring ...

Verdict: The Coolpix S10 follows in the footsteps of some of the most highly-rated compact cameras in digital photography's short history.
