Nikon Coolpix S5 Digital Camera Review

      By Howard Creech

Review summary: The "S" for style Nikon Coolpix S5 is a 6 megapixel digital camera with a large 2.5" LCD screen and a 3X optical zoom.

Pros: 2.5" LCD screen ; Rotary jog dial is neat ; Excellent image quality

Cons: LCD screen is almost useless in bright outdoor light ; Below average battery life ; The tiny zoom switch is hard to use

Verdict: The super svelte little S5 consistently delivers outstanding picture quality, above average performance, and puts the fun back into taking pictures. It is stylish, very well designed, user friendly, surprisingly versatile, and capable of dependably ...

      Nikon Coolpix S5

      By Cliff Smith

Review summary: Can the new Coolpix S5 live up to the legendary Nikon name?

Verdict: All in all a rather lackluster performance from what should have been a very impressive camera. Considering the price and Nikon's enviable reputation, the S5 is something of a disappointment, with fiddly controls, several handling issues and ...

      Nikon Coolpix S5

      By Brad Soo

Review summary: Nikon's new ultra-compact camera for 2006 is the Coolpix S5, featuring 6 megapixels and 3x optical zoom from the S3 as well as a design facelift (for the better), a higher resolution 2.5 inch LCD, improved movie mode and playback and longer battery ...

Pros: Stylish ; Affordable ; Large high-resolution 2.5 inch LCD ; Not many but still useful scene modes ; Rotary dial for quick change of settings ; Great ISO performance till ISO 200 ; VGA 30 FPS movie mode ; Enhanced playback functions ; Good image ...

Cons: LCD visibility not excellent ; Weak flash ; So-so battery life ; No manual controls ; Buffer clearing not fast ; Some soft photos and redeye ; Video quality is not good ; Bad low light performance (High ISO 400 noise, no image stabilization)

Nikon Coolpix S5 and S6 First Impressions Review

      By Dan Havlik

Review summary: No one's going to fault the new Coolpix S5 and S6 for their looks. Both models take the thin, flat, rectangular camera concept and improve it to about as good as it's going to get; to fit the larger 3x zoom Nikkor ED glass into the camera so it doesn ...

Pros: - Snazzy new design reinvents the flat slim camera category - Beautiful, large, high-resolution LCD screens - Pictmotion feature is a fairly sophisticated slide show for a small camera - Rotary jog dial helps scroll through images and menus quickly

Cons: - Too many menus to access some functions - Carrying extra dock is inconvenient - Indented zoom switch is hard to use - Wireless Printer Adaptor for S6 should be included for free

Verdict: Just when you thought flat slim cameras were immune to innovation, Nikon has enlivened the category by creating an attractive new pair of slim cams - the Coolpix S5 and S6. The unique wave design of these models - while based on function to ...
