      Nikon D200

      By Jeff Keller

Review summary: The Nikon D200 ($1699 body only) is the long-awaited upgrade to their popular D100, which was introduced way back in 2002. The D200 is a vast improvement over that camera, so much so that they're not really comparable anymore. The closest competitor ...

Pros: Excellent photo quality, redeye not a problem (though see issue below) ; Built like a tank ; Large, bright, and sharp 2.5" LCD ; Full manual controls, and then some ; Super fast performance, amazing continuous shooting mode ; Tons of custom settings ; ...

Cons: Images a bit noisy at higher ISO settings ; Expensive ; Included software doesn't allow for RAW image manipulation ; Nikon Capture should be included, and not $100 ; Suffers a bit from button clutter ; can be difficult to use ; Zoom and scroll feature ...

Verdict: Now let's talk about memory cards. The D200 uses CompactFlash cards (including Type II cards like the Microdrive), and I'd suggest a 1GB card as a good place to start. A high speed memory card is definitely a good idea, with 66X the minimum speed that ...

    nikon d200

    Nikon D200 By J CLARK (10/11/2008)
    • Pros: easy to use, stable, comfortable, wonderful results very quickly .
    • Cons: cannot think of any.

I bought my D200 earlier this year and used it at the British G.P.. I got some wonderful shots using full auto.
I also have used it at air shows with similar results.
I cannot speak too highly of this camera.
If it has a fault it is the length of battery time availible, but this is not surprising due to it's abilities. Carry a spare battery with you and you will be fine under most conditions.

    The Great D200

Nikon D200 By Brian Gerrard (08/03/2006)
    • Pros: Excellent all round camera
    • Cons: On off switch too small for gloved hands.

In general, a superb piece of kit.Compairing the build quality of the D200 with the D100 is like comparing a Rolls to a Mini. Photo quality again is excellent, most of the general controls are available without having to access the menu's. The only thing that seems lacking is to change mode from colour to black and white, you have to use the menu to select. As I use both on the same shoot it w... Read Full Review »
