      Nikon D40

      By Michael Haynes

Review summary: The D40 SLR digicam picks up where the D50 left off, and on paper, little seems to have changed. But the specifications don't tell you just how much things have evolved.

Verdict: It may look like a refreshed D50, but the D40 boasts an enhanced, intuitive workflow that encourages experimentation. There's plenty of scope for both casual and advanced users. Highly recommended.

      Nikon D40

      By Terry Sullivan

Review summary: Although Nikon continues to improve and hone its entry-level D-SLRs to make them easier to use, the D40 doesn't quite earn a coveted Editors' Choice award.

Pros: Compact, light, and easy to use. Helpful guide features. Very inexpensive for a D-SLR.

Cons: Performance isn't quite as good as other entry-level D-SLRs. Only three AF points. Flash shots could be better.

Review: Nikon's D40 is a tiny DSLR camera that grows with you

      By Peter Pachal

Review summary: Just the other week my cousin turned 11 and, feeling obligated, I decided to go to his party. My companion: Nikon's D40 digital SLR (DSLR) camera, ready to capture the festivities in captured 6.1-megapixel moments. Slinging the Nikon over...

Pros: It's small and exceptionally light, comes with a reprogrammable function button, and takes very nice images.

Cons: The continuous shooting mode doesn't work in tandem with the flash. It lacks sweet features that other Nikons have, including a status LCD and built-in wireless flash support.

Verdict: A The D40 does the job on a serious budget.

      Nikon D40 Review
