      Nikon D50 Review Round-Up

      By Photocrati Staff

Review summary: Launched at the same time as the D70s, the D50 will inevitably be viewed as a cut-down, beginners version of its more serious counterpart. But in use, the D50 rarely if ever feels compromised in any way. It starts instantly, responds quickly and ...

      Nikon D50

      By Staff writers

Review summary: Forget the low-ish pixel-count, this camera has the lot: handling, features and image quality. Add that to the high-powered battery, good for a claimed 2000 shots, and you have a real belter

      Nikon D50

      By Jeff Keller

Review summary: The D50 is Nikon's first truly entry-level D-SLR. Designed to compete with cameras like the Canon Digital Rebel XT, Olympus E-300, and Pentax *ist DL, the D50 is a "slimmed down" version of the D70s (see our review). While both sound similar from a ...

Pros: Excellent photo quality (though see issue below) ; Very well built, feels solid in your hands, especially compared to the Rebel XT ; Good value for the money ; Full manual controls ; Robust performance ; focus speeds were especially good ; In-camera ...

Cons: Camera tends to overexpose ; adjust the exposure compensation for an easy fix ; No backlight for the LCD info display ; Burst mode could be faster ; Included software doesn't allow for RAW image manipulation ; No battery grip available

Verdict: With that all out of the way we can begin our review of the D50 now. Along the way I'll do some comparisons with the D50's biggest competitor, the Digital Rebel XT

      Nikon D50

      By Emily Raymond

Review summary: The landscape of the DSLR market is changing with the introduction of more and more entry-level models. One of Nikon's staple cameras is the 6.1-megapixel D50, which currently fits between the D80 and the newer D40. The Nikon D50 is meant to be easy ...

Verdict: The D50's retail price is far above the top point-and-shoot prices that hover around $500. The $399 Nikon P5000 is the company's top point-and-shoot model. Canon's high-end compact, the G9, retails for $499. The biggest advantage of a DSLR is the ...

D50 - almost the same specs as D70s... at some discount...

Nikon D50 By tom bolonski (03/12/2005)
    • Pros: Easy to use, versatile, vast array of lenses and accessories,
    • Cons: no depth of field preview, ISO 100 missing

This is my first venture into digital SLR. Yes they're bulky and heavier than point&shoot compacts, but you get a good piece of kit that can handle a lot of versatile shooting situations with ease. If a novice to this type of kit, you may need to study and experiment, but in my view, results are really worth it. Brilliant, vibrant detailed photos, versatile shooting modes - really excellent f... Read Full Review »
