      Nikon D700 (body only)

Pros: Excellent photo quality as high as ISO 6,400 ; fast focus and shooting, even in low light ; first-rate build quality and control layout

Cons: Relatively heavy ; low resolution for its class ; viewfinder only provides 95 percent coverage and lacks interchangeable focusing screens ; occasional issues with automatic white balance under artificial light

Verdict: As long as don't need seriously high-resolution photos, video capture, or machine-gun-fast sports shooting, the Nikon D700 has everything you need in a pro full-frame camera for a reasonable price.

      Nikon D700

      By Steve Morgenstern

Review summary: It may seem strange to call a $3000 digital SLR a bargain, but when it comes to the Nikon D700, the label fits. The D700 shares most of the capabilities of Nikon's pro-level D3, widely acclaimed for its sensationally crisp and clean images. But while ...

Verdict: The Nikon D700 uses a full-size sensor to capture images - the same size as a frame of 35mm film - unlike most digital cameras, which employ much smaller sensors. In addition to allowing for superior image quality, that bigger sensor has another ...

      Nikon D700 review

      By Gavin Stoker

Review summary: Sitting between the enthusiast pleasing Nikon D300 and pro-level Nikon D3 models, the newer 12.1Mp Nikon D700 suggests a 'best of both worlds' semi-pro option.

Verdict: The Nikon D700 is blisteringly fast and capture incredible results in near darkness. You get a choice of uncompressed TIFF as well as JPEG or Raw files, making the Nikon D700 a solid 'best of both worlds' compromise between D300 and D3 models. But ...

      Nikon's D700 D-SLR; The Full-Frame March Continues

      By George Schaub

Review summary: The Nikon D700 is the latest in what is clearly a continuing trend in so-called "full-frame" D-SLRs. Unless a radical departure from the classic 35mm form factor takes place, this class of camera cannot accommodate a larger sensor, at least in terms ...

Verdict: The D700 has two so-called "Live View" modes, though what I see through the viewfinder seems just as live, and eminently more viewable in daylight, to me. I have to confess that I am still perplexed about the need for this in any D-SLR, though the ...
