Nikon D80
Review summary: The viewfinder is similar to that on the D200; big and bright with an optional grid that is turned on via Custom Setting 08. However, it doesn't display the ISO or exposure and metering mode settings. The 3D Colour Matrix Metering system also differs, ...
Verdict: A mechanical shutter replaces the electronically controlled shutter on the D200, reducing the top shutter speed to 1/4000 second. But that's enough for most photographers so there's no reason to complain. More significant is the reduction of the top ...

April 2008
Nikon D80
By Jeff Keller
Review summary: The Nikon D80 is the long-awaited replacement the the best-selling D70 and D70s digital SLRs. It's basically a D200 with a slightly different CCD sensor (though still 10 Megapixel) and a slower burst rate. And at $999 for the body only and $1299 with ...
Pros: Excellent photo quality, very low noise -- though see issue below ; Very solid for the most part ; easy to hold ; Super fast performance: fast autofocus + excellent continuous shooting mode ; Large, bright, and sharp 2.5" LCD ; LCD info display with ...
Cons: Images on the soft side straight out of the camera (in my opinion) ; Flimsy door over memory card slot ; Included software doesn't allow for RAW image manipulation ; Capture NX costs $150 more ; Suffers a bit from button clutter ; can be difficult to ...
Verdict: Something else you'll need to pick up is a memory card. Unlike the D70's before it, the new D80 uses Secure Digital (as well as high capacity SDHC cards), and I'd suggest a 1GB card as a good starter size. Buying a "high speed" card is absolutely a ...

Nikon D80
By STEVE ROBINSON (01/12/2007)
- Pros: I can use all of my Nikon AF fit lenses
- Cons: Inbuilt operating menu takes some getting used to
Being a relative novice/hobbyist when it comes to photography I did intend on buying one of the D40 products untill I discovered that my existing Nikon AF lenses were incompatible so I decided on the D80. I am glad I did.
For me the build quality is superb as is the battery life (on a single charge). Yes the inbuilt operating menu can be a little daunting at first but it allows you to start with ...

- Pros: Build quality, responsiveness, handling, image quality with good lenses
- Cons: The kit lense 18-135 isn't up to Nikon quality,
I've been a devoted Nikon user for over 35 years. I still have my first 35 SLR, and it's still working like an Omega watch. I'm very happy with my D80. I've had it for several months, and no complaints so far, except for the kit lens, which isn't really up to the Nikon quality I'm used to. I've read many reviews of this and comparable cameras, before deciding to go for...

Nikon D80
By BOb Powell (06/04/2007)
- Pros: Its very easy to use.
- Cons: NO cons
I recently purchased a Nikon D80 which I've found very easy to use. The only down fall is that I find the lens which is a 18 /70mm rather restrictive. Other than that i find it to be an excellent camera.

Nikon D80
By kevin mcgonigal (11/09/2006)
- Pros: Not many except i can use my Nikkor AF lenses
- Cons: The D70s handles better and the kit lens is junk.
I have used Nikons for many decades and have liked their product. I have two digital D50's and a D70s both of which are excellent and I can use my older AF lenses, especially the 35-70 2.8D. I have had excellent results. I have just purchased and used the new D80 and its kit lens the 18-135 mm. Yhe camera is ok. Yes, I get more megapixels and greater resolution but the body seems not quite the...
