      Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom

      By Jeff Keller

Review summary: Like all of Olympus' recent cameras, the C-8080 is fully compatible with Mac OS X and Windows XP. Most likely, you won't even need to install drivers.

Pros: Very good photo quality, though expect some noise and purple fringing ; Built like a tank ; Tons of manual controls ; Very nice, wide-angle 5X zoom lens ; Two histograms to choose from ; AF-assist lamp AND passive AF system ; Handy RAW data edit ...

Cons: Controls can be intimidating to new users ; Colors a little dull at default settings ; Lens lacks the telephoto power of competition ; Slow RAW/TIFF file write times ; Full manual only on CD ; Tough competition from D-SLRs ; spend just a little more, ...

Verdict: CF cards (2GB and above) with the 8080

      Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom

      By Tracey Capen

Review summary: Olympus goes to 8 megapixels with the powerful and adaptable C-8080.

Verdict: The C-8080 is short on the zoom range for a camera of its size and price, but its well-thought-out design makes its extensive controls easier to use than its competitors'.

Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom Digital Camera Camera

      By Tracey Capen

Review summary: Olympus's C-8080 is a pumped-up version of the C-5060, our current Best Buy. The two cameras resemble each other in overall design and shape, but the C-8080 has 8-megapixel imaging to the latter's 5.1 megapixels, and is significantly bulkier. Its wide ...

Verdict: Like the C-5060, the C-8080 has an articulated LCD panel, but the C-8080's is less flexible--it rotates out and up at right angles to the camera body, but cannot spin 180 degrees as the C-5060's can. Both cameras take wide-angle and telephoto lens ...

      Award: Highly Recommended!

Review summary: On September 29th 2003 Olympus announced the five megapixel C-5060 Wide Zoom, as the name implies that camera was a step up from the C-5050 Zoom in no small measure because of its wide angle zoom lens. And now on the opening day of PMA 2004 Olympus ...

Pros: Very good resolution, joint best of group, Fastest startup time of any prosumer digital camera, Superb build quality, professional feel, Wide angle five times zoom lens, fast at wide, Probably the highest quality new lens designed for 8mp, Low high ...

Cons: Least zoom of current eight megapixel prosumer digital cameras, Camera locked while writing RAW images, Further than average minimum focus distance (0.8 m), LCD only tilts upwards, does not twist out, Only five steps of zoom from wide to telephoto, CF ...

Verdict: My first impression of the C-8080 Wide Zoom was, "at last a prosumer camera that feels as though it is worth its price tag".

Olympus C-8080WZ: Olympus Camedia 8080 Wide Zoom hands on preview

      By Ian Burley

Verdict: As with all these new 8MP cameras, the big unknown is image quality. By packing so many pixels into a 2/3rd inch chip, the risk is higher than wanted noise. It will be the first thing I check when I get my hands on a production model to test. ...
