      Olympus EVOLT E-420 Digital SLR

Review summary: Announced on the 5th of March 2008, the Olympus EVOLT E-420 is Olympus' latest compact 10 megapixel Digital SLR - an update to the E-410 - it features a new live view auto focus mode, face detection focus, a new 2.7" screen, and is the world's most ...

Verdict: If you want to move into the world of Digital SLRs and don't know where to start then the Olympus EVOLT E-420 is probably one of the best cameras to choose - despite being Olympus' "budget" digital SLR - it is not overly limited in any way like some ...

      Olympus EVOLT E-420

Review summary: The Olympus EVOLT E-420 is the World's smallest Digital SLR and offers a 10 megapixel live view sensor, some great lenses, and a large 2.7 inch screen.

Pros: Excellent image quality - excellent auto white balance, accurate colour, good dynamic range ; Excellent 2.7" screen - works well in bright sunlight ; World's most compact DSLR - available with pancake ~50mm lens ; Excellent Zuiko Digital kit lens - ...

Cons: Real optical image stabilisation would be nice (see the E-510 / E-520) ; Somewhat complicated menus (partly due to the vast wealth of options) ; Some banding in ISO1600 photos in low light ; ISO1600 results worse than other DSLRs

Verdict: If you want to move into the world of Digital SLRs and don't know where to start then the Olympus EVOLT E-420 is probably one of the best cameras to choose - despite being Olympus' "budget" digital SLR - it is not overly limited in any way like some ...

      Olympus E-420 Digital SLR Review

      Award: Highly Recommended!
      Award: Highly Recommended!

      Award: Highly Recommended!

Review summary: Olympus have done it again. They've released a successor to a previous DSLR that looks the same but has changed enough for Matt Grayson to not be able to copy and paste.

Pros: Small and lightweight, Easy-to-use, Great noise control, Uses FourThirds standard

      Cons: Lack of a grip

Verdict: For the beginner in photography, the Olympus E-420 is a very capable camera that will accept some extremely good lenses made by Olympus, Leica and Sigma as the FourThirds system is used by a number of companies allowing you to interchange between them

      Olympus E-420

      By Matt Golowczynski

Review summary: The 10-megapixel Olympus E-420 is a purposely compact DSLR that features Live View and Shadow Adjustment technology.

Pros: Little effort to carry, dust reduction, excellent value for money, consistent AWB

Cons: Handling, position of right eyelet, highlight control, slow AF system with standard lenses

Verdict: It's rare to come across a camera that both pleases and irritates you in roughly the same proportions, and here I have found two. There is a lot to like about each; the E-420 for providing masses of features and a good standard of images in such a ...

      Olympus E-420

Review summary: The small size of the Olympus E-420 will make it a firm favourite for anyone with smaller hands or who likes to travel light

Pros: Robust build ; High quality technology ; Comfortable and easy to use ; Great value ; Impressive colours

      Cons: No image stabilisation

Verdict: At its heart, the E-410 has a Four-Thirds NMOS image sensor with an increased dynamic range with about an extra stop or so over the E-410. The colours are superb with skin tones, landscapes and blue skies rendering well in JPEG. Auto white balance has ...
