      Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5

      By Jeff Keller

Review summary: Some of the best cameras in 2004 were Panasonic's ultra zoom cameras. Now, for 2005 they are two new models -- the Lumix DMC-FZ4 and DMC-FZ5 -- which replace the DMC-FZ3 as the entry-level model in the group. New features on these two models compared ...

Pros: Very good photo quality (though see issues below) ; 12X optical zoom lens (though a little slower than on the FZ3) ; Optical image stabilization system ; Robust performance, especially with a high speed SD card ; new focus modes are awesome ; Nearly ...

Cons: Images a little too sharp, leading to "jaggies ; Above average redeye ; LCD and EVF don't "gain up" in low light ; Can't remove memory card while camera is on tripod ; A VGA movie mode and manual focus would've been nice ; Slowest shutter speed in ...

Verdict: Panasonic includes an 16MB Secure Digital (SD) card with the FZ5, which won't hold very many 5 Megapixel photos. So consider a larger card a required purchase! I would recommend a 256MB card as a good place to start. While the camera can use ...

Cons: Small memory card supplied with the camera, Small LCD screen,

Verdict: There is a lot to like about the Panasonic DMC FZ5. Picture quality is outstanding for this type of digital camera and it is also smaller and more lightweight than other extended zoom cameras. In terms of value for money I think it is up there with ...

    Lumix DMC-FZ5

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5 By Ellen Wallinger (23/11/2006)
    • Pros: Leica Optics
    • Cons: none

Combining Panasonic electronics with Leica optics makes this Camera one of the best on the market, have used this camera since Feb 06 constantly. Have purchased a U.V. filter to keep the dust away from the electronics, so far everything works to my full satisfaction. Read Full Review »

    Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5 By Vikram Goel (05/04/2006)
    • Pros: Ease of Use
    • Cons: Exceptionally poor service by panasonic.

We bought it recently and it broke down within two months of purchase. As it was still under warranty we sent it back for repair and haven't received it back as yet, its been almost two months. So I strongly recommend people not to buy this product(actually any panasonic product as they provide exceptionally poor customer service) and suffer. Read Full Review »

    Excellent Camera

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5 By Anonymous (05/12/2005)
    • Pros: Excellent Build Quality, Easy to use, 12 x Zoom, good pics
    • Cons: No remote, No proper lens adaptor (use hood adaptor)

I researched for 3 - 4 months and could find nothing to match it at the price.
I use only outside for wild flower pics and keep in a camera case when walking. I have fallen several times with the camera (once when walking down Ben Nevis fell onto the camera) and so far no problems. As with any expensive piece of kit - always insure it and take the extra warranty.
The only thing I have probelms wit... Read Full Review »
