Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8
By Jeff Keller
Review summary: The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 ($350) is the updated version of the popular DMC-FZ7 ultra zoom from last year (see our review). This latest model is an evolutionary upgrade, providing these new features compared to the FZ7:
Pros: Very good photo quality (at lowest ISO setting and in good lighting) ; Superb 12X optical zoom Leica lens ; lens can be precisely adjusted with new two speed zoom controller ; Optical image stabilization ; Well built for the price ; Large, sharp 2.5" ...
Cons: Heavy noise reduction smears/mottles details when ISO is above 100, or in low light ; Some redeye ; Useless high sensitivity mode ; No USB 2.0 High Speed support ; Can't swap memory cards while camera is on tripod ; Manual leaves much to be desired
Verdict: While Panasonic bundled a memory card with the DMC-FZ7, here on the FZ8 they chose the built-in memory route. The camera has 27MB of hard-wired memory, which holds one RAW or seven JPEG images, which ain't much. Thus, you'll want to buy a memory card ...

By Theano Nikitas
Pros: Compact and lightweight ; Easy to use for beginners ; Advanced feature set for enthusiasts ; 12x image-stabilized optical zoom lens ; RAW mode ; White Balance can be fine-tuned ; Good speed ; Selectable AF points ; Exposure bracketing ; Live Histogram ...
Cons: Noise and noise suppression visible even at low ISO ; High ISO image noise and noise reduction degrades image quality ; Significant chromatic aberration at telephoto ; Digital zoom is soft due to noise suppression ; Moderate barrel distortion at wide ...
Verdict: Following in the footsteps of the FZ7, the updated 7.2 megapixel Panasonic DMC-FZ8 is equipped with a 12x optical zoom lens that delivers a 36mm-432mm equivalent focal length. Unlike many Panasonic cameras, the FZ8's lens starts at 36mm, which about ...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8
By Molly K. McLaughlin
Review summary: The 7.2-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 is an update to the company's FZ7, a former Editors' Choice winner in the budget superzoom category. The camera retains the FZ7's 12X optical zoom lens and 2.5-inch LCD, and adds a unique feature, an ...
Pros: 12X optical zoom. Full manual capabilities. Intelligent ISO mode. Variety of flash settings.
Cons: Lacks wide-angle view. Nonarticulating LCD.
Verdict: Although the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 offers a powerful 12X optical zoom lens, manual modes, and a wealth of helpful features, its lack of a true wide-angle view prevents it from stripping the older Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ3 of its Editors' Choice crown.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 - digital camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 Review
By Howard Creech
Review summary: The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 is a strong contender in the crowded ultra-zoom digital camera field.
Pros: SLR style body, fast, improved LCD and EVF, 12X zoom, image stabilization, manual controls, sharp images
Cons: Noisy images, minor chromatic aberration, smearing/blotching at higher ISO sensitivities
Verdict: I really liked the the super compact and lightweight FZ8. This snappy little digicam provides an SLR-like level of photographic control and creative flexibility, but without the bulky bag of lenses that would be needed to cover the same (36mm - 432mm ...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8
By iain pringle (23/03/2008)
- Pros: Versatile, easy to use with many useful features.
- Cons: Lens cap fiddley.
Have been using the FZ8 for a year somtimes in extreme conditions with no complaints. Detail on A4 prints is excellent with very good colour rendition.
I particularly like the inteligent ISO feature which saves time when working in variable conditions.
There is little or no difference print quality between my Pentax DSLR and the FZ8
which is more flexible in many situations.
Battery life is goo...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8
By andy wright (22/02/2008)
- Pros: Big zoom, relative low cost, reasonable picture quality
- Cons: Lots of noise, slightly fiddly , slow autofocus
I've been using this camera for about a year and have just upgraded to a Nikon D40.
I was originally impressed with the massive zoom and good price. And since then the camera's ability to be both 'point and click' for beginners and to be able to tweak the exposure time and aperture helped me learn the basics enough to make a step up to a 'proper' dslr.
However, I'm a bi...

- Pros: image capturing good texture of ojects
- Cons: under daylight, only ISO 100 & 200 are usuable
First of all, need to praise ukdigitalcameras for its execellet and reliable service. This is a camera for people who needs Image Quality, Easy of Use of Manual Functions, Big Zoom and Value for Money. The image captured may not be the best though good if you are pixel fans and crazy in analysing those image graphs but in terms of texture, it is one of the best because of the leica lens. It mea...
