Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ1/LZ2
By Jeff Keller
Review summary: Now here's something you don't see everyday: midsized cameras with a big zoom lens and image stabilizers! And that's exactly what you'll get with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ1 and DMC-LZ2. The two cameras share the same body design, 6X optical zoom lens ...
Pros: Good quality, sharp photos (but see issues below) ; 6X optical zoom lens in a midsize body ; Optical image stabilization system ; Excellent performance ; Good continuous shooting mode ; Great battery life ; Histograms in record and playback mode
Cons: Images a little too sharp, leading to "jaggies ; some vignetting ; Redeye ; LCD doesn't "gain up" in low light ; No optical viewfinder ; Poor low light focusing ; no AF-assist lamp ; Paltry 14MB of internal memory doesn't hold many photos at highest ...
Verdict: Something else you'll need to buy are batteries. Panasonic includes their new "high tech" Oxyride AA batteries. These last a lot longer than regular alkalines, but they still end up in the trash after a few hours. I'd recommend picking up four NiMH ...

Panasonic Lumix DMCLZ2
Review summary: This camera may be weighty but it sets itself apart with a 6x zoom - equivalent to a 222mm telephoto on a film camera
Pros: Whopping 6x optical zoom. First rate picture quality. Runs on AAs so easy to get emergency power
Cons: Piddling 85,000 pixel LCD. Not the slimmest or lightest on the market

Pros: Ease of use, Outdoor picture quality, Longer optical zoom, Layout and design,
Cons: No viewfinder,
Verdict: The Panasonic DMC LZ2 offers something different. This is a point and shoot camera with a zoom lens twice the length of a standard size lens. The camera produces very sharp images and is also very easy to use indeed.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ 2
By Anonymous (19/08/2005)
- Pros: 6x zoom, stabilization, small, sharp pix, fast, easy to use, quality,
- Cons: None encountered yet
If you are looking for a little pocket or purse camera with a reasonably long zoom and image stabilization, you have only two choices, both from Panasonic: the LZ2 (5MP) and the 4MP LZ1. I purchased the LZ2 as a second camera. It comes with a 6x optical and 4x digital zoom. It also comes with very effective image stabilization - a must, in my opinion, for eliminating the jitters and blurs of long...
