      Review summary: Samsung WB500 review: The WB500 is a good camera that delivers quality shots, but unfortunately its lacklustre performance won't go down well with seasoned photographers.

      Pros: 24mm ultra-wide-angle lens with 10x optical zoom • Effective optical image stabiliser • Clever playback and editing mode • Decent image quality

      Cons: Inconsistent focusing in low-light environments • Slight lag when taking pictures at high ISOs • Limited manual exposure settings

      Samsung WB500

      Review summary: No-one knows what the WB stands for in the Samsung WB500. Matt Grayson thinks it stands for Wide Body. It's a match made in Heaven.

      Pros: Good build; Excellent lens; Big zoom; Good colours; No colour fringing

      Cons: Noise at all stages; Slow continuous shutter; Focusing can be problematic at close up

      Verdict: Despite its obvious flaws, in the right conditions this camera gives some seriously good images. They're sharp, well exposed and have a good colour rendition. What lets it down is the noise which is present at all levels but becomes a problem at mid ...

      Review summary: The 10.2Mp Samsung WB500 has a huge 1/2.33in Schneider lens and offers 24mm ultra-wide image capture and a 10x optical zoom that stretches from 4.2 to 42mm.

      Verdict: Some will find the sheer bulk of the Samsung WB500 reassuring; we found it burdensome. Although the 10.3Mp sensor and 10x zoom were welcome, this was far from our favourite compact.
