      Sigma DP-1

      By Andrew Kliem

Pros: Brilliant image quality, basically no chromatic aberration, manual shooting modes, manual focus dial

Cons: Very slow, some exposure issues at times, no viewfinder, no RAW+JPEG, poor autofocus, expensive

Verdict: Sigma's DP-1 is a very interesting camera. On one hand it captures some of the best shots we've ever seen from a non-SLR camera, making it great for enthusiasts. However it also has slow performance, an annoying interface and lacks a viewfinder. The ...

      Sigma DP1

Review summary: Apart from its Spartan collection of controls, the DP1 is clean, sleek and solid

Pros: Fantastic lens ; Solid build ; Great pictures

Cons: Sluggish operation ; Limited features ; Expensive

Verdict: Naturally you'd expect a camera that costs almost £600 to be well built -and it is. All the DP1's switchgear is of high quality but the body could definitely benefit from a rubber grip for a more ergonomic hold

      Sigma DP1 Review

      By Lars Rehm

Review summary: The Sigma DP1 is without doubt one of the most eagerly anticipated cameras of late, certainly in the compact camera sector. Sigma first presented a concept prototype of the DP1 at Photokina 2006 but the first production models only hit the shelves in ...

Pros: Class leading detail in ISO 100 images, higher ISO performance better than most compact cameras, Resolution is as good as it gets in compact cameras, very impressive for output size, Good dynamic range (though limited usable headroom in raw files), ...

Cons: Desaturated and 'flat' JPEG output, Some chroma noise even at base ISO, lots of it at higher sensitivities, Unreliable White Balance (and poor color in low light), Generally very slow, very long read/write and processing times, Unimpressive shutter ...

      Award: Highly Recommended!

Review summary: Who would have thought that Sigma, with its comparatively tiny budget and short history of producing cameras, would release one of the most important compact digital models of 2008, and perhaps of all time? The principal reason for this bold assertion ...

Verdict: The Sigma DP1 offers the best image quality, JPEG or RAW, of any compact camera currently available today and in many ways equals DSLR cameras with APS-C sized sensors. There is virtually no noise throughout the ISO range, only at the fastest setting ...

      Award: TIPA Award!

Review summary: The Sigma DP1 is the first compact camera with a large sensor, and the one it uses is the same size as that found in the Sigma SD14. The Foveon technology employed gives very high quality images in RAW format at ISO ratings up to 200, though the ...
