Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H1 Digital Camera Review

      By Emily Raymond

Review summary: As the digital camera market matures and consumers want better cameras, more people are growing tired of their 3x optical zoom lenses. Enter the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H1. This digital camera has a 12x optical zoom lens with the option of attaching wide ...

Pros: - Fast start-up speed for "ultra zoom" camera, with minimal shutter lag - Produces sharp, defined images with low noise compared to other 12x zoom models - excellent image stabilization system - 2.5 inch LCD screen - easy to use - nice 12x ...

Cons: - Marketing to "enthusiasts" is a bit misleading - zoom isn't very smooth - sucks the life out of the batteries - slow burst mode - no "delete all" function - Limited flash (offers no control) - Wish there was an ISO 800 or 1600 option

Verdict: I'll be honest with you. When Sony announced that the Cyber-shot H1 was their "enthusiast model," I was not impressed. To me, enthusiasts were people who were accustomed to shooting in RAW format and contained one, if not many SLRs. As you know, the ...

      Award: Best Buy!

Review summary: Sony's Cybershot H1 is clearly going after the same buyers targeted by Panasonic's FZ5, another camera released at around the same time. Both are styled like an SLR, and both feature two-piece clip-on lens hoods, image stabilization, 12x optical zoom ...

Pros: Boasts solid build quality, 12x zoom, Steady Shot image stabilization, and an impressive feature set.

Cons: Limit of 1/1,000 shutter speed.

Verdict: Sony uses its Super Steady Shot image-stabilization technology to help you reduce camera shake, which can occur with such a powerful zoom, and like the FZ5's OIS it does a fine job. Image quality is good - the camera delivered natural colours with low ...

      REVIEW - SONY CYBERSHOT DSC-H1

Review summary: is Sony's entry into the hotly contested market segment of 5 megapixel, 12x zoom cameras. Canon, Panasonic and Konica Minolta all have cameras with similar specifications

Pros: The Sony H1 is a beautiful camera and all controls work flawlessly. It is so responsive that following moving subjects is a breeze. This camera is great fun to use, and it produces beautiful images.

Cons: A discrete Review button, rather than having to dial in Review on the mode dial, would be nice.

Verdict: We never thought we would say it of a camera with an electronic viewfinder, but this Sony is highly recommended. The 5 out of 5 rating is meant to indicate that it perfectly fulfils its intended purpose and is value for money.

      Sony Cybershot DSC-H1

      By Terry Sullivan

Pros: Good picture quality. Fairly good video capabilities. Quick boot-up. Large LCD screen.

Cons: Flash is too powerful in auto mode. Significant shutter lag with flash shots.

Verdict: Except for shutter lag and an overly powerful flash, this 12X superzoom has some fine features.
