      Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 (body only)

Pros: High resolution ; in-body image stabilization ; nice viewfinder ; great accessory system

Cons: Can't lock focus-point selector ; Intelligent Preview button much too easy to hit accidentally ; some subpar aspects of performance ; no Live View ; loud mirror

Verdict: A good first try at a pro-level camera, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 has the high resolution but unfortunately lacks some of the performance and usability you expect from a model in its price range.

      Sony Alpha DSLR-A900

      By Jeff Keller

Review summary: This first look is designed to give you a complete overview of the new Sony Alpha DSLR-A900. Due to time constraints, a full review will not be published for this camera.

Verdict: Since the A900 doesn't come with a lens, you'll need to supply your own. The camera supports all Alpha-mount lenses, whether they say Minolta or Sony on the front. If you're using a lens designed for 35mm cameras, then you'll enjoy the benefit of a ...

      Sony Alpha DSLR-A900

      By Kevin Carter

Review summary: Sony had promised to deliver a full-frame camera at the launch of its first APS-C DSLR, and prototypes had been on public display long before the A900 was formally introduced. While we believed the sensor would most likely be a 24.6 million-pixel Cmos ...

Verdict: If all this sounds a little underwhelming, it's not the case, as the Alpha DSLR-A900 is a superbly capable camera in the right hands. It won't appeal to everyone, and there's a limited range of pricey full frame lenses to consider. However, this Sony ...

      Sony Alpha A900: Alpha A900

      By Kathleen Cullen

Review summary: The Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 is a powerful digital SLR camera aimed squarely at professionals and enthusiasts who covet a full-frame sensor--and who can afford the investment. This camera costs $3000 for the body only, and $5250 with a 24mm-to-70mm f/2.8 ...

Pros: Easy to use, accurate, and solid In-camera stabilization really works

Cons: Noise reduction softens images A bit pricey for new Sony buyers

Verdict: Overall I enjoyed using the Sony Alpha DSLR-A900, and for the most part I was very happy with its image quality. A full-frame 35mm sensor is indeed exciting, but I'm not convinced of this model's value. It may be a good value to you, if you crave the ...
