      SONY a900 DSLR &: REVIEW-SONY a900 DSLR & Zeiss 24-70mm lens

Review summary: This is a full frame DSLR with a 24.6 megapixel CMOS sensor - currently the most pixels on a 35mm sized sensor. The camera is beautifully made with a luxurious feel to all controls. It also feels solid, with extensive environmental sealing. Image ...

Pros: The resolving power of this camera/lens combination is simply breathtaking. What it means in every day use is that images can be cropped down to small sections and still retain sharp detail. Dynamic range is very good and exposures are generally spot ...

Cons: The camera/lens combination is heavy. Do cameras really need to have such mass in order to be indestructible? High ISO images are not as clean as from the Nikon and Canon equivalent cameras.

Verdict: Sony tell us that this is not their professional camera. It is intended for the well-heeled amateur who is either a fan of the brand or has some legacy Minolta lenses in the bag. So it sells against the Nikon D700 and the Canon 5DII - formidable ...

      Sony Alpha a900

      By Matt Golowczynski

Review summary: The 24.6-megapixel Alpha A900 is Sony's first full-frame digital SLR and is aimed at professional photographers, especially studio-based pros looking for the ultimate in high resolution.

Pros: Viewfinder, image quality, LCD, Intelligent Preview, remote control, effective stabilisation

Cons: Handling issues, noise across sensitivity range, DT lens support

Verdict: It should come as no surprise that the A900 is a solidly built DSLR, capable of producing highly detailed images. From a practical consideration, its resolution and the Carl Zeiss optics currently available make it a perfect match for landscape and ...

      Sony DSLR-A900

      By Margaret Brown

Review summary: In its new flagship DSLR, the A900, Sony has eschewed gimmicks like live view and video recording and instead focused upon producing a camera with real appeal to professional photographers. Minolta film camera users who've been eagerly awaiting a ...

Verdict: All tests were conducted with the Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA SSM lens. This lens is an excellent performer and good partner to the 'Exmor' sensor
