I've been a devoted Nikon user for over 35 years. I still have my first 35 SLR, and it's still working like an Omega watch. I'm very happy with my D80. I've had it for several months, and no complaints so far, except for the kit lens, which isn't really up to the Nikon quality I'm used to. I've read many reviews of this and comparable cameras, before deciding to go for the trusted brand name. I was forced into buying the camera with the 18-135 kit lens as this was the only available DX lens at the dealer I trust. However, after seeing the results, I ordered the superior quality 18-70 mm lens, which I always keep on and is perfectly suited to my needs.
Nikon would have scored even better with this excellent camera had it included with it the NX software and a built-in dust removing system. However these are not drawbacks, but for the same price, which isn't cheap compared to similar products, Nikon would have sold more D80s and reaped more profit had these been included. They probably have much faith in the loyalty of devoted Nikon users.
The MB-80 Battery Pack is an excellent and versatile accessory and is worth every penny. So too is the Speedlight 800. Get these and you'll be happy for many years to come.
Happy snapping.
